Final Cut Of Our Music Video

Due to unknown reasons I am unable to post our final cut onto my blog.

Technical Difficulties

We have had many difficulties with Premier, which included exporting, importing videos and file corruption and deletion. However we have managed to export a version of our video which is our final cut. The ending of our video however has become slightly juddery and one shot of myself picking up a bag as slowed itself down, and we cannot change it back without further corruption of the video.

Final Draft of Magazine Advert Ancillary Task

This is the latest version of the magazine advert. Nicola has completely changed it from the previous version but she felt this version was more successful in creating mood and atmosphere. The image of Libby is slightly faded around the edges was to make a link to the music video during the dream sequence when I disappear and Libby is left alone. Nicola also changed the colours of the advert as she used the tint option in Photoshop this was to make it easier for her to do the font colour and we both believe the effect is better. The teddy holding the sign was used to make the audience (who would be looking in a magazine) stop and look at the advert. Nicola also changed the fonts from last time, using the same font generator but changed the fonts. "Taylor Swift" remains the same font as before but the "Ft..." and "Safe and Sound" are all different fonts. This was to make them more individual and to catch the audiences eye.

Final Draft of Digipak Ancillary Task

(Top Left: Back cover)
(Top Right : Front Cover)
(Bottom Left: Back cover of our booklet)
(Bottom Right: The design for the CD)

This is our final design for the Digipak. We have changed the font from the previous design so that it matches Nicola's magazine advert and also the font itself is now more like an actual album of Taylor Swift's, as this is the style font she uses. We also printed out our digipak and assembled it to see how it would look in reality.

Once our digipak was assembled we were also able to see how our booklet inside the digipak would look. For our booklet we chose to have a prologue behind the story we show in our video, which Nicola wrote, along with the lyrics which had been typed up to make them look neater. We also stuck in swirls which Nicola had created to add with the style to which Taylor Swift uses in her actual albums.

Second Draft of our Ancillary Task

(Top Left: Back cover)
(Top Right : Front Cover)
(Bottom Left: Back cover of our booklet)
(Bottom Right: The design for the CD)

The second draft our our Digipak had us change the front cover's background image as all the things in the background drew us away from Libby's image. We also chose to change the colour to black and white to link with the rest of our video and to also emphasis Libby's characters emotions.

To change the Digipak for our final draft we need to change the font so that it will match the font Nicola has used for the poster.

First draft of our Ancillary Task

(Top Left: Back cover)
(Top Right : Front Cover)
(Bottom Left: Back cover of our booklet)
(Bottom Right: The design for the CD)

This is the first draft of our music video Ancillary Task. We have used the teddy bear from our video to show the links back to the video, and also to show the idea of being child-like, which is something we use in our video. The font we have used is similar to the style of fonts that Swift uses in her actual videos, and we have also added the logos of the same record companies which produce her music.

To make our Ancillary Task better, we have decided to change the top right pannel to black and white, and change the background so we will have Libby hugging her teddy in the field, the same field as the bottom left pannel.

Album Covers Research

These are some examples of albums which had been published.

This album from the 'Stereophonics' although it is unrelated to our genre of music, shows a good example of colour and use of patterns in album covers. The title also suits the band and their music, along with the pattern of lines on the front cover.

The CD itself is also like the front cover. The pattern on the CD is the same lines as the front and back covers, but this time they are in dark colours like black and blue, so that the white writing around the CD shows up. The writing on the CD itself is the name of the album along with its band.

The back cover of the album is the same as the front with a continuation with the lined pattern. The writing is in white compared to the black on the front, however I feel this gives the album a contrast, as the name of the album "Language, Sex, Violence, Other?" it rather hard hitting so black is a good contrasting colour. The song titles however are in white as they stand out and are less bold and demanding as the album title. Also on the right side of the back cover is the band publisher, something we would need to include on our album cover.

This is another album. Although this is for a music quiz, it still shows a good use of colour and images suitable for the CD. The introduction on the back helps to act as an instruction manual, and if this were a music CD, it would be the song titles. The idea of a diamond shape with a cream background also helps to make the black writing contrast and stand out.

The front cover also links with the colour and image theme set out on the back of the case. The writing of the title "Spot the intro 2" is the same as the back and the font and style used make it stand out.

The inside of the album is decorated like the front and back to again show the consistency. The title is again present on the CD and booklet. The CD itself is different coloured to the rest of the album as it only uses one colour whereas the rest of the album uses 4 and more colours. This colouring however on the CD makes the images and text stand out more, something we are planning to replicate on out album cover.

We are also making a magazine advert for our second of the two tasks, and the research and information for that is on the blog of my partner Nicola Postle.

Ideas for our Album Cover

For our video we need to create an album cover.

We began to plan our the font style we would like to use on the album cover. To stick with the plan we had originally for the video, we want to use swirly writing, in a medium sized font and colour it white. The panels of the album where we are going to place pictures will be in black and white to again link in with the music video.

We decided to include our ideas from the video into our album cover. For the CD we are planning to put a teddy bear on the cover, to symbolise the teddy bear that Libby holds in the video. The teddy bear will also be reflected on the inside left panel of the cover, to again link with the video. For the front we plan to have a picture of Libby crying with the title of the song and singer next to it, with the back cover having a picture of the older sister to again link with the family theme of the video.

Ancillary Task Planning

For our ancillary tasks we have decided to spilt up, and create a Magazine Advert and a Digipak. Nicola will be working on our Magazine Advert, whilst I will be creating the Digipak.
