Our Audience's Media Habits

According to a survey from the American Press Institute published in the spring of 2010, teenagers have changed drastically in their media content over the last few years. These graphs show just how some teenagers chose to spend their media time.
This graph shows the change in the number of hours teenagers spend on various media products. The graph shows the change between the ages of 8 to 18 which is slightly below the age of our intended audience, from 2004 to 2009, on a typical day. The main rise has been in audio/music content with a rise of +47 hours. This is good for us as our medium for our project is a music video, however this graph is unclear about whether this is listening to music or viewing music videos as well as listening to the songs.

This graph shows the percentage of teens between the ages of 12-17, an ideal age range for our video, of whom use their media devices to access online content. 93% of those surveyed said that they used a laptop or desktop computer to access online applications.

This rise in ownership of media platforms between the ages of 8-18, which is again slightly lower in age range to our intended audience, with most owning a MP3 player or iPod. Although all have increased since 2004, laptop has increased the lowest. This is possibly due to the large technological development in MP3 players and phones in the 5 year period.

The second largest media time spent by 8-18 year olds was music and/or audio. Although again this is slightly out of our target audience age range, it shows that people still enjoy listening to music and this is good news for our project of a music video.

It was from the following web address that I found this survey and its results:
